The baby of the family, White Kratom is the lesser known and much overlooked strain, which definitely deserves a closer look as a great alternative to both the more popular red and green varieties.
Where Does White Kratom Come From?
It might surprise you to know that White Kratom comes from the same place as red and green – they all grow on the same tree, and the color refers to the veins on the leaves which change hue as they mature. All Kratom leaves begin life as white-veined, but as time goes on, the white changes to green, and then finally turns red. For any Kratom user, this is essential to know because it is this natural aging process which determines the concentration of 7-hydroxymitragynine, one of the two main active alkaloids found in Kratom. All Kratom contains both 7-hydroxymitragynine and mitragynine, but as the leaves mature, the ratio of these alkaloids changes as more and more mitragynine is converted into 7-hydroxymitragynine, and the higher the concentration, the more potent the strain will be.
The Kratom tree, or Mitragyna Speciosa, is a member of the Rubiaceae family and is related to the humble coffee plant. Found throughout Southeast Asia, the trees thrive in the mineral-rich volcanic soil and warm, humid temperatures of this tropical part of the world, so much so, in fact, that they can reach heights of up to 90 feet in the right conditions.
Kratom grows both in the wild and on small farms and in gardens, and the farmers who nurture and harvest the crop have had their skills and expertise passed down through generations of farmers before them. They are highly skilled in recognizing the best Kratom leaves to pick and when, and only the leaves which are needed are selected, leaving an abundance on the tree to mature, creating a crop of Green and Red Kratom leaves which allows the tree to continue to grow.
Our Kratom farmers are also paid a fair wage, which ensures that they are able to comfortably feed and look after their families, and also means that they do not need to farm rubber or palm oil – two of the crops which are most detrimental to the environment due to deforestation.
